What is the PTA Tax?
In Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) charges a tax on the importation of all mobile phones, both new and used. The tax is required for any phone that is activated using a Pakistani SIM Card and used in Pakistan for longer than four months.
Payment of the tax ensures the phone can legally operate on Pakistani networks (e.g., Jazz, Zong, Ufone, Telenor, etc.).
